The Jesus Prayer

Posted by Site Webmaster on Friday, October 18, 2013, In : Byzantine Catholics

The Jesus Prayer brings concentration to the mind and helps detach it from its attraction to and domination by all the surrounding objects of the physical world gained through the senses. It brings us back to a unity with God that existed at the time of our creation when we were created in “Gods image.” It is about liberating the soul from the passions of the body so the mind can act out of God’s will to carry out His commandments of love.

We must recognize, howeve...

Slacker?

While studying the book of Proverbs in my small-group Bible study, our leader suggested that we change the description of a lazy person from a sluggard to a slacker (6:6,9). Ah, now he was speaking my lingo. I immediately started thinking of all the people I consider to be slackers.

Like the men and women who fail to teach and discipline their children. Or that guy who refuses to help around the house. Or those teenagers who neglect their studies and play Internet games...

Unanswered Prayer

The apostle Paul had one overriding desire: that fellow Jews would embrace the Messiah he had encountered. “I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart,” he said. “For I could wish that I myself were . . . cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers” (Rom. 9:2-3 NIV). Prayers to Mary, the Blessed Mother of God

Posted by Site Webmaster on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, In : Our Lady's Promise

PRAYER TO OUR LADY: Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, we turn to you, O Virgins of virgins, our Mother. To you we come, before you we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, do not despise our petitions, but in your mercy hear us and answer us. Amen.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY, ASSUMED INTO HEAVEN: Immaculate V...

Lesson 4: Prayer

Posted by Site Webmaster on Friday, March 25, 2011, In : Catechism Lessons

"Ask, and it shall be given you:  seek, and you shall find:  knock, and it shall be opened to you.  For every one that asketh, receiveth:  and he that seeketh, findeth:  and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.  Or what man is there among you, of whom if his son shall ask bread, will he reach him a stone?  Or if he shall ask him a fish, will he reach him a serpent?  If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children:  how much more will your Father who is in Heave...

Life Changing Prayers from the Bible

Posted by Site Webmaster on Thursday, March 24, 2011, In : Catholic Bible Study
The Bible is our prayer book. We should not only read the word but also pray it. The Spirit uses the word to teach us how to pray, since we do not know how to pray as we ought (Rm 8:26). The following prayers are guaranteed by God to change lives because they are based on the word. Most of these prayers have been used for several years in evangelistic ministry. They have repeatedly put thousands of people in touch with the life-giving power of God. The prayer of a holy person "availeth much" ...
