St. Joseph of Leonissa (1556-1612)
Joseph was a Capuchin Franciscan missionary to Muslim lands. After being hung above a fire for three days, he escaped and returned home to Italy. There he helped establish hospitals, homeless shelters, and food banks, and ministered in prisons, to the poor, and the sick.
